"Climate Change: UbD-Based Preschool and Primary School Activities" Book Published
The book "Climate Change: UbD-Based Preschool and Primary School Activities," prepared in collaboration with Bahçeşehir University, CIFAL Istanbul, Yuvam Dünya Association and UNITAR, was published on 1 September 2021. An educational resource that explains climate change, its impacts and the measures that can be taken to children through various activities, the book aims to contribute to a curriculum that has been lacking in Türkiye within the scope of the Sustainable Development Goal of climate action, and to support the relevant stakeholders.
Prepared within the scope of the climate change studies carried out at the BAU Faculty of Educational Sciences and edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nihal Yurtseven and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Saraç, the book "Climate Change: UbD-Based Preschool and Primary School Activities" has been designed for three different levels (preschool, grades 1–2 and grades 3–4 of primary school) and four different themes.
The main themes of the book are What Is Climate?, Global Warming and Climate Change, Impacts of Climate Change, and Measures to Prevent Climate Change. Based on the Understanding by Design (UbD) instructional design model, unit plans planned to last approximately 16 hours at each level have been designed.
Within the framework of these plans, the activities aim to raise students' awareness of climate change, enable them to transfer what they have learned to daily life, and help them become climate-literate individuals.
